Trois Esquisses means “Three Sketches” in French, representing the three experimental movements in the piece. Because of its experimental nature, the melodies produced sound extremely contemporary; almost as if it transcends time. Shimizu plays around with merging dissonant sounds both with and without closure as well as unique motif structures and strange tunings, in a way that keeps the listener on their toes.
